Comedian Russell Brand Pleads Not Guilty to Sexual Assault Charges

Russell Brand, the British comedian and actor, appeared before Southwark Crown Court on Friday, denying multiple charges including rape and sexual assault. The 49-year-old faces allegations involving four women, with accusations spanning from 1999 to 2005. Brand has rejected all claims made against him.

During his court appearance, Brand wore a dark suit with an unbuttoned pinstripe shirt and confirmed his identity before pleading not guilty to five charges. The trial has been scheduled for June 3, 2026. The investigation started after a joint media inquiry by The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4’s “Dispatches.”

Police reports from London’s Metropolitan Police detail that the alleged offenses include a 1999 rape in Bournemouth, indecent assault in Westminster in 2001, oral rape and sexual assault in Westminster in 2004, and sexual assault in Westminster between 2004 and 2005. These allegations cover several years and locations.

Brand’s career includes many Hollywood movies and hosting roles on British TV and radio. Recently, he has become more focused on social commentary, especially on YouTube, where his channel boasts nearly 6.8 million followers. His online presence often includes conspiracy theory discussions.

The police investigation followed a high-profile joint media investigation that brought forward the allegations. Detectives launched a detailed inquiry in late 2023 to explore the accusations against Brand.

The case marks the beginning of what will likely be an extended court process. Brand has maintained his innocence and will face trial next year, hoping to prove his case and defend his reputation.
