Sharif Lauds Military as Pakistan Urges Restraint Amid Ceasefire Strain with India

Pakistan reaffirmed its stance on the recent ceasefire agreement with India, with the foreign ministry emphasizing a “faithful implementation” of the deal. This statement was released late Saturday night, shortly after both countries accused each other of violating the ceasefire. The ministry insisted Pakistan remained committed to the pact despite fresh tensions.
The Pakistani government accused Indian forces of violating the truce in multiple, though unspecified, areas. While not offering specific examples, the ministry underlined that Pakistan's armed forces responded with measured discipline. Officials characterized their approach as one of “responsibility and restraint,” reflecting an intent to avoid further conflict.
Urging a diplomatic route, Pakistan called for any challenges in executing the ceasefire to be managed through high-level communication. The statement advised soldiers on both sides to act with caution and show judgment in the face of tension. Islamabad clearly prioritized dialogue over confrontation in its public messaging.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the nation hours after the ceasefire announcement. In his televised speech, he described the military’s actions during recent events as historically significant. He praised their resolve and valor, declaring that Pakistan’s defense efforts had made “military history” during the latest chapter of the India-Pakistan conflict.
Notably, Sharif’s address made no reference to the recent blasts reported in Kashmir or the sharp allegations from India's foreign secretary. Instead, his speech focused on honoring Pakistan’s military and expressing gratitude for international mediation efforts. He avoided commentary on any potential breaches by Pakistani troops.
Sharif extended particular thanks to US President Donald Trump, whom he credited for facilitating the ceasefire. He also acknowledged other global allies including China, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, and the UK, recognizing their support in helping reduce hostilities and restore a fragile peace.
Concluding his remarks, the Prime Minister expressed immense pride in Pakistan’s armed forces. He described their conduct as exemplary and full of honor, crediting their leadership with upholding national dignity. The remarks seemed intended to inspire unity and bolster confidence in Pakistan's defense posture.
