Champions League Dreams in Jeopardy as Arsenal Stumble Again

Momentum was essential for Arsenal ahead of their massive Champions League semi-final return leg. What they didn’t expect was a damaging defeat to Bournemouth that disrupted their rhythm at the worst time.
Saturday's 2-1 loss at home saw Mikel Arteta’s team fall short once again, just days before facing PSG in Paris. With a 1-0 first-leg deficit already making the task difficult, this latest setback has only raised more doubts.
Arsenal’s European hopes are now their last lifeline, and confidence has taken a hit. Still, Arteta is trying to find a silver lining, suggesting that the emotional fallout from the Bournemouth game could fuel their response midweek.
“It stirred frustration and rage,” said Arteta. “We must use that on Wednesday.”
The game against Bournemouth revealed familiar flaws. Arsenal seemed in control after Declan Rice's opener, but their inability to deal with set-pieces cost them dearly.
A long throw led to Huijsen’s header for the equaliser, and then a poorly defended corner resulted in Evanilson’s winner. Set-pieces continue to be a serious problem — almost 39% of their conceded goals stem from such situations.
Arsenal’s tendency to lose leads is another concern. Despite starting strong in many matches, they’ve repeatedly failed to maintain their advantage, which has now cost them 21 points this season.
The final blow was Arsenal's lack of urgency after conceding — no shots were attempted in the final 15 minutes. With PSG scoring freely at home, Arsenal's chances of progression are slim unless they find form quickly.
