Deadly Violence Strikes Gaza Aid Sites as Ceasefire Talks Falter
In Rafah, southern Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinians gathered at a U.S.-backed aid distribution point, killing at least 30 and injuring 120 others. Civilians had assembled seeking much-needed humanitarian aid amid a worsening crisis but were met with deadly force instead.
The Gaza Government Media Office condemned the attack, describing aid centers as “mass death traps” rather than safe havens. They reported that the recent violence has resulted in at least 39 deaths and more than 220 injuries at similar sites within a week, marking a dangerous trend in the conflict.
Officials accused Israel of deliberately using aid as a tool of war, manipulating civilians into exposed positions to be targeted. The media office also placed responsibility on the United States for providing financial and political support, making both parties culpable for the ongoing bloodshed.
Amid these attacks, ceasefire negotiations remain strained. Hamas has proposed changes to the U.S.-drafted ceasefire, calling for stronger civilian protections and guaranteed humanitarian access. However, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff rejected Hamas’s demands as “unacceptable,” complicating peace efforts.
The situation has severely endangered humanitarian operations, with aid workers and civilians risking their lives just to access basic relief. The targeting of aid sites has transformed what should be safe zones into dangerous areas fraught with violence and fear.
International pressure is mounting for urgent action to protect civilians and uphold humanitarian principles. Without immediate intervention, Gaza’s already critical situation risks spiraling further out of control, threatening more lives and stability in the region.
