Gaza Crisis Deepens as Israeli Offensive Escalates Amid Global Outcry

Israel has escalated its military operations in Gaza, launching a major offensive aimed at destroying Hamas and securing the release of hostages. The intensified assault has sparked widespread condemnation from the United Nations and humanitarian organizations due to the severe impact on civilians.

Since Thursday, at least 262 Palestinians have been killed and 675 injured, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The increasing intensity of airstrikes has overwhelmed medical facilities, which are struggling to cope with shortages of supplies and power outages caused by the ongoing blockade.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres called the situation “beyond inhumane” and condemned the siege and blockade as violations of international law. He urged an immediate end to the starvation tactics and humanitarian blockade suffocating Gaza’s two million residents.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) described their campaign as “Operation Gideon’s Chariots,” involving extensive strikes and troop deployments designed to seize strategic locations in Gaza. The goal is to defeat Hamas and rescue hostages amid the ongoing conflict.

Peace talks resumed in Doha, Qatar, with Israel and Hamas negotiating a potential ceasefire and hostage release. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is closely monitoring the discussions and has instructed his team to stay in Doha until all efforts are exhausted.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that the death toll from the conflict now exceeds 53,000 since the start of Israel’s offensive in October 2023, with women and children making up the majority of casualties.

At Beit Lahiya’s Indonesian Hospital, Dr. Munir Al-Sultan described the intense bombings near the facility that disrupted ventilators supporting critically ill patients. The worsening conditions are pushing Gaza’s healthcare system toward collapse amid the relentless attacks.

Displaced residents like Raed Radwan from northern Gaza report hearing constant explosions shaking the ground. Many who could not flee earlier are now moving south, facing skyrocketing food prices and transport costs amid the ongoing siege.

Tensions between the US and Israel appear to be growing. Former President Donald Trump proposed turning Gaza into a “freedom zone” under US oversight, acknowledging starvation but stopping short of offering detailed aid plans during his recent Middle East tour.

Arab leaders gathered in Baghdad for a summit on the Gaza crisis, calling for an immediate ceasefire and unimpeded humanitarian aid access. They condemned forced displacement as a grave violation of international law and a crime against humanity.

UN agencies report that over 436,000 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced since March, with Gaza’s entire population facing a high risk of famine. The blockade denies essential food, medical supplies, and fuel, intensifying the humanitarian disaster.

Despite global criticism, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu vowed to continue military operations, stating the destruction would displace Gaza’s population. This follows Hamas’s deadly October 7 attacks, which killed 1,200 Israelis and took hostages, triggering the current war.
